Description
Abaligeter Cave is a stalactite cave near the village of Abaliget that was discovered in 1768 and has been a nature reserve since 1941. It consists of an entrance cave five to six meters wide and 38 meters long, under which an ice-cold brook gushes out from a crevice. Behind it you come to the main cave, which is almost a kilometer long. With a little imagination you can see dragons and other mythical creatures in the overwhelmingly beautiful stalactite formations. The cave explorers have also found carved steps, wall remains and human and animal bones - even a Roman urn burial site. The cave must have been inhabited as early as prehistoric times. Parts are open to the public.
